Losing Teeth in My Dreams

It has indeed been a while since I have posted. I have a million excuse, none of them good, all of them job related. This summer has been quite the trial by fire. Let's start with the end of the year...

With the exception of three students, all of my 8th grade students passed the NY State English Language Arts Exam (WHOO HOO!!!). Apparently, our school was at risk of becoming a SINI school (School In Need of Improvement) if the test scores for Students with Special Needs didn't improve. They did, and my principal was a happy man. So happy in fact, he told us to write a two page wish list for our students. It is questionable if we will get anything we ask for, but it was a nice gesture. I received several shout-outs from the good Doctor, but really at the expense of my co-workers, so it was no good.

The summer began with a clap of thunder and a torrent of rain. I was spirited to Queens under a bad omen. I got there safely and then unpacked. I had to admit I was very annoyed by most of the people there and the setting right away. Young, recently graduated college students on a college campus was something so foreign to me. I was greeted by new TFA teachers slipping and sliding in a torn up lawn. I was embarrassed. Clearly, Mr. Ma was still the dominant personality. Carey was going to need to regain the upper hand if anyone was going to think of me as anything but a prick.

CMA began, and it was hard. I had never needed to regiment my life 5 minutes at a time. The CMs are used to being treated a certain way, and when it can't be provided, some of them have meltdowns. I can't help but see myself in that, and in some ways, loathe it. Sometimes the only answer is, "we don't know" and "we'll have to wait and see." I was seen as the incompetent bad guy on more than one occasion, I am sure.

After struggles from lack of sleep (typical), supervisors (predictable), and mentees (if anyone "pushes back" on me one more time, I swear...)I am spent. Weekends are no refuge because I have no home. The lease is up, Mike is going to Japan, and Sarah is only staying in the states for a few months. I agreed to live with her, only to go back on it. It was muy shitty of me, but a physical reaction to a cross-street is a sign, I am sure of it.

Institute is over and I still have no home. I moved in with Amanda Young, a co-worker. It is nerve wracking because I also have to go back to MN to a family reunion of sorts. It was a good time, and was contacted by Amanda, who finds me housing with Danielle. (YESSSSS!)

Move in, first days of school, and a wonderful birthday brings us to the present day. I will try and update more often. :)
